A LONELY HEART

In a quiet lonely mansion
Nestled
back among the hills.
Lived an old man and his daughter
He always called her happy Jill.

She was lovely as a flower
Her cheeks a blushing red.
Hair of gold and eyes azure
Always a kind and loving friend.

All the old man had to treasure
Cherished her with love and fame.
Till one day there came a suitor
Walking gently down the lane.

It was then his heart was saddened
For he knew the time had come.
To release him from his treasure
And he then would be alone.

So the days sped by so quickly
He had won the maidens hand.
So she bid farewell to father
Left her home for a distant land.

But he could not hide his sorrow
Growing feeble every day.
Alas it was too much to master
So he too was laid away.

Twas a sunny day in autumn
The leaves were whirring down.
As his many friends and neighbors
Gently laid him in his grave.

He was missed by all who knew him
As they laid him down to rest.
His weary head upon a pillow
And his hands upon his breast.

We will miss him yes we'll miss him
When we see his vacant chair.
Kneeling there in silence
Gently whispering his evening prayer.

He had heard the Savior calling
To that Heavenly home above.
He is sleeping sweetly sleeping
Mid the garden chains of love.
